Young Treasure Hunter Breaks Record at Museum

Young archaeologist, Victoria Rigby, has broken a record at Museum of London Docklands by visiting the Big Dig more than six times in the last two weeks! The ten-year-old is so keen to get stuck into archaeological work, Victoria has already spent over half of her school holidays learning about archaeology and working with real archaeologists to uncover the treasures buried in the Big Dig pits.

During her last trip, the Big Dig team specially buried a museum shop serpent ring and pendant that Victoria had spied on one of her previous visits, as well as a giant chocolate gold coin, aptly minted in the reign of Queen Victoria.

"I've always wanted to be an archaeologist and now I've had the chance to experience what it would be like! I cannot wait to come back and have another go, hopefully really, really soon!" Victoria said after her last visit.

Graham Stratfold, Head of Visitor Services at Museum of London Docklands said: "the Big Dig is such an exciting summer event. Victoria's boundless enthusiasm and interest in archaeology demonstrates how hands-on historical events such as the Big Dig can be bring history to life and make a significant impact on how young people view learning and how they choose to spend their holidays. We hope to see more eager visitors throughout the rest of the summer."

The Big Dig runs from 11 July to 6 September 2009 at Museum of London Docklands.
