Tom's red nose Thames row

The first leg of diver Tom Daley’s Comic Relief endurance challenge today saw him scull from the London Aquatic Centre, the stage for his first Olympic medal, to Tower Bridge.

Joining the Thames at Limehouse, the rowing novice was cheered on his way up river by crowds of well wishers.

At Tower Pier, he transferred to a bike and sped off for Reading.

This week he will also turn swimmer and runner to get him back to his hometown of Plymouth, via Exeter.

Among the supporters gathered to welcome him to Tower Pier were 2020 Doggett’s Coat & Badge winner James Berry, an Uber Boats by Thames Clipper captain, and representatives from LGBTQ+ rowing club, the London Otters.

Before setting off from Limehouse, Tom Daley and Davina McCall talked about the challenge.
