Tender for Maritime Transponder Equipment and Maintenance Contract for users of River Thames

The Port of London Authority (PLA) invites expressions of interest for a supply, installation, training and maintenance contract for up to 120 vessels.

The PLA is responsible for safe navigation on the tidal Thames. It will be introducing a mandatory requirement for vessels 50 gross tons above (or ones carrying more than 12 persons) to fit a transponder system that is interoperable with the internationally adopted and recognised AIS Class A system. This includes a need for a geographical display for situational awareness of other users; the transmission of the number of persons on board; and for emergencies. The contract also includes a support package to be offered by the supplier(s) to maintain the highest levels of availability.

The PLA will facilitate the process, but the purchase contract will be made between river users and the supplier. A panel comprising PLA staff and river users will identify a short list of suppliers. An invitation to tender will then be issued to those short listed.

Anticipated contract value is £0-480,000. The volume of work cannot be guaranteed to a single supplier.

Expressions of interest and a request for pre-qualification and tender forms should be sent to the address below. Interested parties will need to return a pre-qualification questionnaire no later than 20 October 2006.
