Sarah's Brush with the Lord Mayor

The 22-year-old had her creations brought to life when the Port of London Authority (PLA) signed her up to design its float for the Lord Mayor's Show.

The event - which marked the start of Alderman Michael Bear's term of office as the 683rd Lord Mayor of the City - paraded 150 horses, 21 carriages, 20 marching bands and more 6,000 people.

Sarah spent four weeks drawing and painting the designs for the PLA float which featured boating activities on the tidal Thames through London and out along the estuary.

The PLA float passes St Paul's (click on image to enlarge)Sarah, who studied drawing and applied art at the University of West England in Bristol, said: "It was great to see my work paraded at such a prestigious and historic event. The float even made an appearance on the BBC."

The PLA attends the annual events because, in addition to being head of the City, the Lord Mayor is also Admiral of the Port of London – a 95 mile stretch of the Thames between Teddington and the North Sea.
