Port of London Authority Vice Chairman appointed

Angela Knight has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Port of London Authority (PLA).

Mrs Knight has been a non executive Member of the PLA since September 2002 and was re-appointed in September 2005. In November 2006, she joined the British Bankers Association as Chief Executive, having previously been Chief Executive of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers. She is a non-executive director of Logica. In her earlier career, Angela Knight held managerial positions in a number of industrial companies. She became a Member of Parliament in 1992 and was Economic Secretary in the Treasury from 1995 to 97. She was appointed CBE in the 2007 New Year Honours List.

Angela Knight succeeds Duncan Clegg as Vice Chairman, a role he held for over four years until his retirement from the PLA on 31 December 2006.

PLA Chairman, Simon Sherrard, said:

I am delighted that Angela has accepted this important role with the PLA at an exciting time for the organisation, running up to our centenary celebrations in 2009.

We extend our thanks to Duncan Clegg who has served the PLA admirably over his nine years on the board, the last four as Vice Chairman. It is particularly appropriate, given his passion for rowing that we were able to publish and implement our new Code of Practice for Rowing on the Tidal Thames, during his final months with us.
