New licensing portal opened

The Port of London Authority has unveiled its new licensing portal.
We have revised and refreshed our advice on river works licence applications within the PLA website and introduced a new streamlined licence applications system, which will make the process more efficient and allow members of the public to view ongoing applications.
The new portal will allow applications for river works licences, dredging licences and vessel licences, although the first stage will only be for permanent river works licences. Previously, applications were made on PDF forms but new ones will be made on new web forms, which will guide applicants through the process and ensure their application is correct when it is processed.
Applications using the previous forms will be accepted for a period of three months to support the transition. New applications will be validated to ensure all the required information has been provided, acknowledged, and then subject to a 21-day consultation period, before the decision phase.
The software had been provided by Idox.
James Trimmer, the PLA’s director of planning and environment, said the new portal would increase the efficiency and transparency of the licensing process.
“Improved technology allows us to better serve our customers and the needs of the river,” he said.
