Emergency Exercise Notice Tuesday 4 July 2017

The Port of London Authority (PLA) and Shell will be running an emergency exercise on the Thames, in the vicinity of Canvey Island, on Tuesday, 4 July.

The exercise will start at 10.00 am and be finished by 3.00 pm. The scenario is designed to exercise the emergency response procedures and Oil Spill Contingency Plans in place for the PLA, Shell Haven, oil spill specialists Adler and Allan Ltd and other external parties that may be involved in an oil spill incident and oil spill clean-up in the area.

PLA harbour master (lower), Cathryn Spain, said:

“We run exercises at least once a year to test our emergency response, our people, the equipment that we use and how well all agencies involved work together. It’s really important we do this as it means that, should something ever require us to respond for real, everything is tested and ready to go.”

Organisations involved in the exercise will include: the Maritime Coastguard Agency, Castle Point Council and Thurrock Council.
