Centenary Dragon Boat Race

Teams compete for the winThames Companies Compete in PLA Centenary Dragon Boat Race

Eighteen teams from the Thames port and river community took to the waters of Millwall Docks this week (12th May) to compete in the Port of London Authority (PLA) Centenary Dragon Boat race.

The winners were the Company of Watermen & Lightermen, followed by Tilbury Container Services and the Port of Tilbury.

The event took place at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre on the Isle of Dogs. Over £7,000 was raised through the event, which will be split between three river-based charities - the Mission to Seafarers, Sea Cadets and the Docklands Sailing Centre itself.

PLA chief executive, Richard Everitt said: “It was great to see so many teams from the Thames competing in the event. It brought the river community together to have fun and raise money to support river based charities.”

The full results for the final were as follows:

  3. Port of Tilbury
  4. Petroplus
  5. PLA – Navigational Management Team
  6. PLA – Navigational Systems
