A new partnership between the Port of London Authority (PLA) and the Thames Festival Trust (TFT) will champion river activity and encourage young people to think differently about the Thames. By becoming a core supporter of TFT over the next four years, the PLA will boost the annual month-long Totally Thames celebration of the river (a highlight in the annual river calendar); and support the extension of the Trust’s education outreach work with hundreds of secondary school pupils in London boroughs.

Work is well underway on a £2.5 million programme of investments at Tower Wharf in Northfleet, enabling owner Seacon to target emerging opportunities to supply building materials to major construction projects in London.

A day of celebrations and thanksgiving was held at the London Cruise terminal in Tilbury today (22 June) to mark the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush into the port on Tuesday 22 June 1948 with hundreds of people on board who travelled for 30 days from Jamaica to begin a new life in Great Britain.

The Port of London Authority (PLA) has ordered the UK’s first hybrid pilot boat from Norfolk boat builder, Goodchild Marine, as it publishes the final version of its Air Quality Strategy for the tidal Thames – also the first of its kind for any UK port.

Today, World Ocean’s Day (8 June 2018) sees the launch of a Litter Strategy for the Thames – a major campaign aimed at tackling the scourge of rubbish, particularly plastics, in the UK’s most famous river.
